Driving at night

Glare from headlights and streetlights can make night driving tiring and uncomfortable. Reflections on spectacle lenses may add to the problem, sometimes creating distracting halos around lights.

Essilor Crizal® Drive is an anti-reflective coating designed for driving. It helps reduce reflections and glare, allowing more light to pass through the lenses and providing clearer, more comfortable vision in low-light conditions.

Driving in bright sunshine

Prescription sunglasses can make a significant difference when driving on bright days. Brown or amber tints can improve contrast while providing protection from sunlight, making them a good choice for everyday driving.

The tint must be suitable for road use, and sunglasses should never be worn when driving at night. We can help you choose an appropriate colour and depth of tint for your needs.

Reducing glare from wet roads

Sunlight reflecting from wet roads, puddles and car bonnets can create intense glare. While ordinary tinted lenses reduce overall brightness, polarised lenses are designed to reduce reflected glare more effectively.

Essilor Xperio® Polarised lenses can improve visual comfort and contrast, making them particularly useful for daytime driving in bright or wet conditions. As polarised lenses can affect the appearance of some dashboard displays, we recommend checking their suitability for your car.

Which lenses are right for you?

The best option will depend on your prescription, when you drive and the conditions you find most difficult. Some people may benefit from an anti-reflective coating for night driving, while others may prefer polarised prescription sunglasses for daytime journeys.

Spring Style, Streaming Eyes: Hay Fever & Your Vision

Why does hay fever affect your eyes?

Hay fever is caused by pollen, tiny particles released by trees, grasses and flowers. When pollen comes into contact with your eyes, your body reacts as if it’s under attack.

This can lead to:

·       Itching

·       Redness

·       Watery eyes

·       Puffiness around the eyelids

In simple terms, your eyes are trying to “flush out” the pollen, which is why they can feel irritated and constantly teary.

Simple ways to soothe your eyes

A few small changes can make a big difference:

·       Wear glasses or sunglasses outdoors to shield your eyes from pollen

·       Avoid rubbing your eyes (even though it’s tempting)

·       Wash hands and face and change clothes after being outside to remove pollen

·       Do not dry your laundry outdoors, as pollen gets trapped in the fabric

·       Use a cold compress to calm irritation

·       Consider antihistamine eye drops for relief from the pharmacy

If symptoms are persistent, it’s always worth speaking to your optician or pharmacist.

How Are They Different From Regular Varifocals?

Standard varifocals are meant to be worn all day, allowing you to see clearly at
all distances, from reading a book to driving a car. However, this all-in-one

  • The reading and computer zones are often small in standard varifocals.

We had the pleasure of a visit from Trevor the designer of SALT eyewear. SALT are a Californian brand producing very high quality frames using Japanese acetate.

Trevor explained the inspiration from nature reflected in this brand and the manufacturing process in Japan, focused on producing highest quality frames.

We loved the passion Trevor puts into producing these great frames.
